MRF completed the City of Edmonton DRAINS Conversion Project in March 2000. MRF was chosen by the City of Edmonton because of its excellent track record for custom programming and data conversion services.
The main issue of the project was that the existing database had data entry errors and integrity problems, which had to be resolved. The City did not want to eject the existing data in lieu of new data, due to the years of maintenance records that the current database contained. The focus of this project became to devise processes, software, and techniques to make it possible to repair and update as much of the existing data as possible including:
-
Cleaning the graphical files.
-
Linking the graphical elements to existing database records
-
Creating and linking new database records to graphical elements that does not have database linkages.
-
Converting symbology (colour, style, level, etc.) of graphical elements to a new standard.
In order to complete these tasks quickly and correctly, MRF applied its expertise in custom programming and project design. With the custom programs and the skilled technicians that are a part of MRF, the tasks allocated to MRF were completed quickly, correctly, and with minimum inconvenience to the City of Edmonton.
MRF abilities demonstrated in this project include:
Ability to administer an Oracle database
Ability to digitize maps in Microstation
Ability to develop program to automate processing
